Fashion scene

Fashion Scene: Coachella

There's something about music festivals that inspires people to wear their most flamboyant outfits—feathered headdresses, metallic spandex bodysuits, bikinis with boots—but while there were plenty of out-there ensembles at Coachella this year, we also noted a slew of chic looks. From Nicole Richie's feather-print Mulberry blouse to Kate Bosworth's patriotic Topshop tank, we found loads of inspiring summer outfits at the festival's many shows and parties and couldn't wait to share them with you. Read on for details about all of our favorite ensembles and be sure to tell us which ones you want to wear!

Nicole Richie
While Kate Moss is definitely the queen of Glastonbury, Nicole Richie might be the patron saint of Coachella. Her delightfully bohemian sensibilities are in perfect keeping with the festival's semi-hippie spirit and she's always one of the ladies we look to for music-festival style inspiration. This year, Richie wowed us at the Mulberry BBQ at the Parker Palm Springs in the British brand's Annie Blouse ($850) in Pumpkin Feathered Friends, House of Harlow 1960 Jordana Sunglasses ($125), cutoffs, and a Mulberry Heritage Bayswater Satchel in Pheasant Green (similar to this bag, we love the hue!). Richie looks earthy, yet ethereal, which is an excellent combo, for sure!

Camilla Belle
One thing we learned at Coachella is that eyelet-like tops are Camilla Belle's go-to choice for music festivals. She wore a laser-cut Mulberry blouse to the British brand's barbecue on Saturday (the Kilty Blouse ($620) to be exact), followed by a more casual tank at the shows the following day. For her festival look, Belle paired Joie's Varina Floral Eyelet Top ($248) with frayed Current/Elliott The Boyfriend Star Denim Shorts ($178), a semi-Southwestern Ralph Lauren Collection Beaded Serape Vest ($3998, available at select Ralph Lauren stores), and Converse Eyewear's Chorus Sunglasses ($59) in Pink Gradient, resulting in a sweet outfit that's perfect for this occasion.

Harley Viera Newton
Model/DJ/Dior Beauty ambassador Harley Viera Newton was one of the many young lovelies who graced Coachella this year and we were very pleased to see her. While her outfits were always impressively cool, we are particularly fond of the ensemble she wore on the last day of the festival. Newton picked a perfect striped t-shirt—specifically, Juicy Couture's Raglan Sleeve Striped T-Shirt ($128)—for the shows, which she paired with tan crocheted shorts, simple nude flats, and Juicy Couture Era Sunglasses ($120).

Alexa Chung
Everyone's favorite British it-girl made the rounds in a number of notable outfits, including the lovely look shown above. Snapped on Day One of the festival, Chung wore a summery ensemble comprised of a vintage lace-front dress paired with a favorite pair of Kurt Geiger flat sandals and vintage jewelry. Just goes to show that Chung can make anything—including white crushed velvet—look ridiculously cool!

Jamie Chung
One of the most visually intriguing outfits at Coachella came from reality TV talent-turned-actress Jamie Chung. The Sucker Punch star went for a mixed-prints look with two pieces by Jenny Han: the Serpentine Cropped Tee ($95) and Floral Print Silk Shorts ($67). As for her accessories, Chung skipped the sandals and wore a pair of Shellys' Harrington Black Boots ($81) instead. Last, but certainly not least, she added a little more color to her ensemble with Hobo International's Full Swing Bucket Bag ($148) in Ocean.

Kate Bosworth
Last year at Coachella, Kate Bosworth won our hearts when she wore a blue and white tie-dye Suno dress, so we knew we should be on the lookout for the actress/JewelMint.com co-designer this time around. Unsurprisingly, Bosworth didn't disappoint, especially on Day Two of the festival. We love her patriotic Topshop American Flag Tank Top ($45), especially the way she paired it with white, cuffed Current/Elliott The Girlfriend Shorts ($167, available at Shopbop this week), Isabel Marant lace-up wedge sneakers, classic Ray-Ban Aviator Sunglasses ($139), and, of course, JewelMint jewelry. Perfection!

Eliza Doolittle
Though there were many highly anticipated shows at Coachella, we kept hearing people chat about Eliza Doolittle's set. The singer/songwriter certainly looked buzz-worthy at the Mulberry barbecue, where she turned up in a colorful, youthful ensemble comprised of a watermelon Silver Spoon Attire x Kate Moross t-shirt, Ksubi shorts, and one of Mulberry's newest bags: the Taylor Mini Satchel ($800) in Bright Cabbage. The energetic outfit is very California and thoroughly cool, not bad for a Londoner, eh?

Whitney Port
Of all the many celebs and tastemakers who attend Coachella, few seem to have as much fun there as Whitney Port. The designer/author/style star wore a number of darling ensembles, including the above look from the first day of the festival. Port picked a white lace-embellished dress by Magda Berliner, which she styled with an insanely cool pair of Illesteva Leonard Sunglasses ($160) and Ligia Dias' Rope & Pearl Glasses Strap ($155). That's right, a glasses strap—suddenly we totally want one!

Isabel Lucas
Australian stunner Isabel Lucas is always enviably attired in one-of-a-kind finds, so we were delighted to learn that her Coachella wardrobe is actually semi-obtainable! The actress picked a blush colored Tigerlily Stina Dress ($322), which she wore under a lace top created by the Sydney-based label, Lucy Lane Vintage. As for her hat, well, that's vintage too!

Alessandra Ambrosio
The always-stunning Alessandra Ambrosio never fails to impress with her Coachella style, and this year was no exception to that rule. Even her simplest outfits are interesting, like the look she put together for Day One of the festival. The model/Victoria's Secret angel wore a lovely, lightweight frock—Rebecca Taylor's Sunflower Cami Dress ($325), to be exact—with a pair of Benjamin Eyewear's Nicole Sunglasses ($325), Chloe boots, and Tolani's Square Chakkra Scarf ($89). Her look is easy to emulate and effortlessly cool, so be sure to take notes!

Nathalie Love and Gia Coppola
Sometimes simplicity is best when it comes to music-festival fashion, as Nathalie Love and Gia Coppola showed us at the Mulberry barbecue. The duo—Love is an actress and Coppola is a photographer/director—opted for simple, unshowy outfits, which they accessorized with Mulberry bags (the Lily in Red Onion for Love and the Carter Camera Bag in Midnight for Coppola) and chic flats.

Diane Kruger
We had a feeling we'd see loads of maxi skirts at Coachella—we did—but no one did it better than the one and only Diane Kruger. The style icon picked a nude Zara Creased Long Skirt ($99.90) for the festival, paired with a black tank and a straw Borsalino fedora. Of course, Kruger's wearing the most of-the-moment polish on her fingers and toes: Chanel's Le Vernis Nail Color ($25) in bright yellow Mimosa!

Kate Ciepluch
As the Fashion Director of Shopbop.com, Kate Ciepluch is always impeccably dressed for every occasion, including Coachella! We loved her look from Day Two, which was comprised of a T by Alexander Wang Tencel Variegated Rib Tank ($96), crocheted white Nightcap shorts, vintage boots, Carol Marie's Domed Pyramid Ring ($90), and an Alternative Apparel backpack. The resulting outfit is a little edgy and very cool—just what we'd expect from this fashion insider.
